The West Midlands Health Technology Assessment Collaboration (WMHTAC) Homepage

Most of the team are based in the Unit of Public Health, Epidemiology & Biostatistics at the University of Birmingham, but other teams are based all over the West Midlands. Our wide range of collaborators includes national and international colleagues, but our main partners are ARIF (The Aggressive Research Intelligence Facility), BTAG (The Birmingham Technology Assessment Group) and The Unit of Health Economics.

WMHTAC produces systematic reviews, health technology assessments, and economic evaluations, and disseminates their results. We also carry out teaching and training including undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes and short courses. These include:

Evidence Based Healthcare & Health Technology Assessment MSc/PG Dip/PG Cert

Health Economics & Health Policy MSc/PG Dip

CASP-Birmingham (Critical Appraisal Skills Programme Birmingham)

We carry out work for a variety of health research programmes, including the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) technology assessment review contract, NICE Centres for Public Health Excellence (CPHE),  National Co-ordinating Centre for Health Technology Assessment (NCCHTA) research and development programme, and work for  the Regional Evaluation Panel (REP).  We also provide support for the Medical Advisory Panels of the DVLA and contribute to the Evidence Notes series for QIS Scotland.
